Melvyn "Mickey" Manaster, age 86, of La Jolla, California passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Mickey was born to Sally and Irving Manaster. Mickey attended Culver Military Academy and then graduated college from Northwestern University.
He met his bride, Ann, in Chicago and they were married for more than 60 years. Mickey’s love and respect for Ann will always be remembered by his beautiful toast on his 80th birthday where he expressed his love and gratitude for Ann.
Mickey’s passions were his grandchildren, golf and investing in gold. His daily phone calls with his grandson Jacob were a highlight of his day. Micky was an achiever – in life, business and golf – amazingly scoring many holes in ones. His customers were his friends, and Mickey had friends all over the world.
Mickey was man of important words rather than many words. He was about “we” not “I” and was a devoted husband and father and would do anything for his family and special circle of friends. He was very private and once you gained his respect, Mickey was always there for you, supporting you and helping you reach your potential.
Mickey bravely and courageously fought many health challenges, always believing and trusting his doctors and never complaining. He fought so hard against COVID and Parkinsons and he kept hoping and trying for his legs to work again.
Mickey is survived by his wife Ann, son Michael (Lisa) and daughters Susan Umans (Allan) and Linda Eigner (Bill) and sister Judy Rosenbaum. Mickey has 5 grandchildren (Justin, Rachel, Emily, Jacob and Jonah) and one great grandson (Owen). Mickey will forever be in our hearts and may his light and wishes for good health shine brightly on all of us.
