Medina Salcedo Prades, born in Nabua, Camarines Sur, Philippines, and lived most of her life in Southern California. She passed away after battling Pancreatic Cancer on September 17, 2023. Passing in San Diego, CA lovingly surrounded by her husband Andy Sr., and children Christopher, Mendy, and Andy Jr and, their spouses, and two grandsons.
Medina was born on May 12, 1951. Daughter to Irineo “Papa Neo” Salcedo. Sister to numerous brothers and sisters. After proudly graduating from college she taught the subject of Home Economics at the Philippines School. She migrated to the USA in 1976 and shortly after met her husband, Andy Prades. She went on to have 3 children, Christopher, Mendy, and Andy Jr. born in San Diego, California.
Medina or Medy, Medi as she was affectionately known by, unconditionally, unselfishly loved her children and supported them all her life through the many highs and difficulties of their lives. She also made it her mission to care for people through her work as a Dietary Technician Supervisor at Mount Miguel Covenant Village retirement facility for 33 years. She was known to hire and help acclimate Filipino immigrants into the workforce to start a new life.
Medina was also passionate about her Catholic faith. As a loyal member of The Nabueños of Southern California, INC she volunteered at many fundraising events. She was also a proud former board member, Christmas Caroler, food organizer, and treasurer.
In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening her beloved orchid flowers, sewing, singing Karaoke, and spending time with friends and family and especially quality time with her grandchildren Andy III, and Christopher Alejandro who she proudly loved and spoiled every chance she got.
When she splurged on herself, she can be found having fun in Las Vegas, relaxing and enjoying the many perks of the Marriott Rewards Member.
To say that her family and friends will miss her greatly is an understatement. Between the many patients she cared for and everyone she worked with, Medina was a well respected and cherished colleague as well as loyal friend to many people.
It was said Medina was unselfish to a fault. Often neglecting the needs of herself for the needs and well-being of her many friends and family.
