Mary was born on February 15, 1926 in Centralia, IL. Her parents, Mary and Silas
Scott, had a son, Stanley, and four daughters - Lana, Doreen, Mary and Betty.
Mary married Orville Stone in 1946. Their daughter, Luanne, and sons, Michael
and Danny, survive them both. Mary is also survived by her sisters Doreen and
Betty, her grandchildren, Kate McPherson-Hope (and her husband, Brian) and
Duncan Scott McPherson (and his wife, Jennifer), her great-grandson, Noah McPherson,
her daughter-in-law, Lee Lampard Stone, niece Connie Sinclair and numerous nephews,
great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family members.
Mary worked for many years as a Special Education Teacher's Aide in Belleville, IL.
A few years after her retirement and immediately following a trip to San Diego for the
holidays, she made the decision to move to sunny southern California. She and Danny
adjusted beautifully to the warmer climate and never regretted leaving the cold winters
of Illinois behind.
For over 12 years Mary lived at the Meadowbrook Senior Mobile Home community in
Santee. She made many wonderful friends there and her life became filled with fun
activities. She played Bingo and Bunco, sang in the choir, served on the board, played
shuffleboard, attended potlucks and parties, was a Red Hatter, gathered with the Lunch
Bunch, line-danced and went on 4 cruises!
She saw both coasts of our country, traveled from New England to Key West, Alaska
to Hawaii, and visited England, Scotland & Ireland.
Her devotion to her children - especially her son, Danny - was remarkable.
She was loved by many, and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to
call her friend.
And those who called her Mother, or Sister, or Grandma miss her already - but will
always remember her smiling face and sense of joy.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the
Meadowbrook Clubhouse, 8301 Mission Gorge Road, Santee, CA from
1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
