She was born in El Centro on September 30, 1932 to Swiss immigrants Mary and Joseph Sigrist, and was later adopted by her mother’s second husband Fritz Binggeli. Raised in a large family on the Binggeli farm and dairy, Mary was proud of her family’s Swiss heritage.
Mary was in the very first class of four women to graduate from the University of San Diego in 1954 and started her career as a social worker in Imperial County and later in San Luis Obispo. She married Orville Beaver in 1958 and started her family. Mary and Orville settled in University City, San Diego in 1969 where they remain to this day.
Mary is survived by husband of 65 years, Orville; four children, Jim Beaver (Susan Wells), Terry Hache, Susan Kewley (Bob), and Cindy Livers (Kevin); six grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Amy, and James; two great-grandchildren, Wilson and Dax; and many extended relatives and friends.
Mary very much enjoyed her family, working hard for their success and providing a warm and welcoming home. She was quite a cook, an ability she passed down to all her children. She was active in scouting and the church, and enjoyed traveling, square dancing, gardening, and sewing. Mary had a heart for children and after her own were raised, she provided day care in her home for preschoolers.
Funeral will be held July 14, 10:30 a.m. at Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church, 3131 Governor Drive, San Diego. Reception to follow.
