Maria "Concetta" Corona, age 88, of San Diego, California passed away on Wednesday April 1, 2020. Maria was born November 22, 1931 in Aspra, Sicily, Italy. Concetta immigrated to America in 1949, which is when she met the love of her life, Donald Corona. They were married in 1950 and had 57 wonderful years together until his passing in 2008. Up until that point, they were the oldest living Italian couple in Little Italy, San Diego. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved the Lord. She was so devoted to the Lord that all she would do was pray, pray, pray, pray, all day long. Our family joked that all that was missing in her home was some stained glass windows, a pipe organ, and the pews! She would always preach to her family "One should always pray no matter what." And not only pray when you are in a jam or when you need help, or a special favor from God. Concetta was a great cook as well as a baker. She was also known for her beautiful and delicious homemade Italian signature cookies. One day (just for fun) the family entered her cookies at the "Del Mar Fair" in the foreign cookie category and she actually won! She loved teaching her family all of the forgotten Italian and Sicilian proverbs. She was also a natural born comedienne, which could be why she left us on April fool’s day. Although she is gone, she will remain in the hearts of all who loved her. She will continue to live on in the stories and memories that we share with one another. Although she has left us here on Earth, she was welcomed into the gates of Heaven and is with her husband and Lord for All Eternity. May she rest in peace.
Maria is survived by; son Salvatore Corona (Olivia); daughter Maria Josephine; son Gerald J Corona; and goddaughter Rosalie Zizzo Balistreri; sister-in-law Yolanda Corona. Concetta is survived by six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
