Margie Nell Reece Gassaway was born in Orange, Texas on August 1st, 1943. She was the second oldest of five daughters and one son born to the late Woodrow and Jewelean Reece Sr. She graduated in 1962 from Hebert High School in Beaumont Texas.
June 1964, she graduated from School of Practical Nursing at Bayview General Hospital in San Diego, California. She left San Diego, California and moved to Alaska where she gave birth to her first child, Michael Gassaway. She made her home three years later back in San Diego, California. Four years later in San Diego, California, her daughter, Monica was born. She changed profession to work for the United States Postal Service. After 40+ years, she retired as a manager in 2014 from United States Postal Service Rancho Bernardo location. She spent a large amount of her time enjoying her grandkids. She departed her life on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Jewelean Pimentel in 2014, her daughter Monica Pimentel in 2018, and her oldest sister Peggy Ligon in 2019.
She is survived by a son, Michael Gassaway of San Diego, California; three sisters Mildred Reece, Edna Jean Briggs (Tommy), and Heidi Fontenot; and one brother Woodrow Reece Jr (Cheryl); all of Beaumont Texas; Three grandkids Joey Pimentel Jr, Joaquin Pimentel and Jorja Pimentel; and son-in-law Joey Pimentel Sr.; all of San Diego, California; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.

A funeral service for Margie will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Therese Parish, 6400 Saint Therese Way, San Diego, CA 92120. A visitation follow from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Goodbody Mortuary, 5027 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92115. A graveside service will follow at Singing Hills Memorial Park, 2800 Dehesa Road, El Cajon, CA 92019.
Serving as pallbearers are Kory Briggs, Lance Fontenot, Michael Gassaway, Joey Pimentel, Jr., Joaquin Pimentel, Joey Pimentel, Sr., Tommy Briggs, Woodrow Reece, Jr., Kevin Reece, Kendall Reece, Kyle Fontenot and Damien Sonnier.
