Lydia De La Pena Asias was born on January 30, 1935 and raised in Caloocan City, Philippines. Her mother died when she was eight…at her age, she began to learn the hard work, the value of money and the importance of worth living.
Married to Benjamin Ronquillo Asias (deceased), Lydia as she was fondly called, lived a simple life… a loving caring mother. She always has a view of looking forward to what is needed most, especially for the family.
Being an ordinary government employee in the Department of Education and Culture
(Philippines), she was described by her colleagues as diligent, efficient and trustworthy. She enjoyed multi-task work. In between her office breaks, she sells fresh fruits and vegetables available or in season not just to cope with the additional income but also to help her co- workers, mostly mom like her to have something to prepare on their table when they go home. Thrifty as she was, most of her earnings were saved for the needs of the family and for the education of her children, which was her main priority.
Migrating to the “Land of Opportunities” , was a dream come true. She was employed as a housekeeping supervisor at the Double Tree Hotel for 35 years. She received an accountable number of “ Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year” awards and certificates. She loved and enjoyed her works, the reason why she was mostly described as the gem of the department.
When her husband died, just like any other ordinary wife…her world end. She became more protective of herself, defensive and aggressive. She’s still that kind of a woman she use to be on ther lighter side.
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) was the cause of her death. Lydia left this world last January 6, 2024 at the age of 88.
