Lillian Imogene Cunningham was born on May 29, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Eddie and Lettie Whitsitt.
Lillian lived with her grandmother in Tuskegee, Alabama after her mother died. Lillian went to high school and graduated from Tuskegee Institute in 1947.
In 1948 Lillian met Henry Charles Cunningham Jr. and fell in love and she married him in 1949. A few years later in 1953, Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham moved to San Diego with four of their beautiful children and became proud parents of five children after they moved to San Diego. There were now seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
In moving to San Diego, Mrs. Cunningham was a mother and a house wife. Lillian also worked in a furniture store (Shaw) out in Pacific Beach for many years. Mrs. Cunningham worked a few other jobs but the best job was being a house wife and mother to five children. That was the hardest job for her in her life.
As a wife and mother to her five children she enjoyed taking them to the movies, the parks, the beach, and company picnics with her husband.
After all of her children were out on their own, Lillian and her husband enjoyed life. They enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home. She also enjoyed traveling outside of the United States with her husband, her two sisters, her brother and friends. They traveled to China, Africa, Hawaii and many countries in Europe. When she was not traveling, she enjoyed staying home and working out in her yard. Her favorite flower was the "Bird of Paradise."
She leaves us with many memories, her husband Henry Charles Cunningham Jr.; children Charles Cunningham (deceased), Mark Cunningham of Menifee, California, Marjorie Cunningham of La Mesa, California, Robert E. Cunningham (deceased) and Leonard E. Cunningham of San Diego, California; she also leaves behind brothers and sisters Barbara Smith of Parker, Arizona, Ronald Whitsitt, Georgia Beacham, Eddie Whitsitt (deceased), Flossie Duncan (deceased) and Mary Purifroy; grandchildren Adam Charles Cunningham, Leonard Cunningham Jr., Charles Cunningham, Michael Cunningham, Shermane Cunningham, Eugenia Cunningham and Henry Cunningham; along with a host of loving relatives and friends.
