During World War II he was an essential worker at Solar Aircraft, producing exhaust manifolds for planes. That is where he met his future wife, Hazel. They had a son and daughter. In 1956, the family moved to San Diego to Casa de Oro. He loved to work in the garage, creating many different things. After Hazel died, he moved next to his daughter and occupied himself by painting and gardening.
