Laura Mae King Fisher was born in Fort Defiance, Arizona on October 5, 1949. She passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025 surrounded by her children. Laura was a very creative woman. Among many talents she was an accomplished seamstress, loved to knit, crochet and always enjoyed gardening and being outside. We would often find her picking fruit in her small orchard.
Laura called California her home for over 50 years. She has five children in order of birth; from her first marriage: Ardrene and Simone and from her second marriage: Dawn, Shawn and Ian. She has six grandchildren in order of birth: Joseph, Veroneca, Jessi, Sky, Liliana, and Sam. She has two great grandchildren: Lyla, and Shaylee.
Laura had a degree in computer sciences/programming. She had a successful career working at Stanford University, until she remarried and took on the full-time job being a wife, Mom, butt-kicker and child tamer.
Laura always enjoyed having her family gather, spend time together, and laugh until we peed our pants. She always reminded us that we will always be here for each other. We enjoyed making each other laugh and we would spend hours being silly until our stomachs ached.
Laura has always been a fighter. She fought to make a better life for her children. She first fought cancer more than 20 years ago and fought again even harder when it came back recently. We will always look up to her. Despite the hard times she faced, she still fought to spend a few more years, days and hours with the ones she loved.
We are relieved that she is now able to rest free of pain and worries. You have made your place in each of our hearts and together each piece makes us whole. Thank you for that gift. We will miss you and thank you for knitting all our hearts together and creating this amazing and beautiful family.
She was called many things by many people and our hearts go out to all who loved her. Thank you all for your love, support, strength and prayers during this sad time. We each have our favorite memories of Laura; a special place or time we spent with her. Please share your special memories with us and include any pictures.
