While his death is devastating and untimely, Kevin lived life to the fullest and achieved some of his greatest joys and accomplishments in his most recent years.
Born on October 31, 1977, to Jean Marie Sternagle and Edward Sternagle, he was a Californian most of his life.
At the age of 14, Kevin’s family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he attended Charlotte Latin High School and went on to attend Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. He graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in finance and a minor in international business. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity, and later, became an alumni advisor for the Theta Chi chapter at California State University San Marcos.
After college Kevin returned to Southern California. He settled in Carlsbad, where he began his 22 year long career as a financial consultant. An inspired entrepreneur with a passion for helping others, strategizing with his clients to realize the vision for their lives, Kevin founded his own business, SBIS Financial Consultants, LLC in 2011.
In 2010, Kevin began dating the love of his life Lauren Richter, whose kindness and consideration for others are matched by an infectious smile and personality. Together, they built a home an ever-lasting love and looked forward to starting the next chapter of their lives.
Kevin and Lauren married at an intimate ceremony in Carlsbad, on May 7, 2021. They celebrated their love again in October with a second ceremony in his mother's hometown of New Orleans, a city near and dear to them as the home of much of Kevin's beloved extended family, endless memories, and his favorite football team. WHO DAT!
As a naturally talented athlete from a young age, Kevin excelled at golf in high school and through adulthood. He also enjoyed spending his time fishing and was an avid basketball and football fan.
Kevin was passionate about helping others through multiple charities including The Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, served on the board for the San Diego Sports Medicine Foundation, and Big Brothers of America as a youth mentor. More recently he was helping support Veterans through The Honor Foundation.
Kevin has always been grounded and generous and is known for his larger than life personality, wise advice and a brilliant wit. He is cherished by a huge circle of friends, family and, frankly, anyone who ever met him.
Kevin is preceded in death by his grandparents.
Survived by his loving wife, Lauren, his mother Jean, her partner Brian Augustus, father Edward, his brother Eddie Sternagle (Shannon) niece (Jack), nephews (Tyler and Nick), his uncle Bill (Deirdre), aunts Mary (Richard) and Lori (Bobby), numerous cousins, mother-in-law Cheryl Richter, and countless friends and colleagues whose lives he has touched immensely.
Services for Kevin will be held at El Camino Memorial Park, Sunday March 27th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad in his honor. Please visit the organization's website, https://www.bggcarlsbad.org/, click "Donate Now," and note "in memory of Kevin Sternagle" under comments.
