A. Talucad was born September 29, 1977 also at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, CA.
Karen graduated from Santana High School in 1995, earned a Bachelors of Science in
Communications in 2011, and a Master of Business in Administration with an emphasis in
Marketing in 2013 from the University of Phoenix. Although Karen worked various jobs, she
found her passion as a CTE educator for at-risk youth and as a content creator and mental health
advocate creating her own non profit line of street wear.
Karen is remembered for her sense of style, sharp wit, intelligence, and humor. She encouraged
her daughter, Elise, and all her students to look at the world through a creative lens. Her playful
nature and love of all things pop culture made her an easy friend to all. More than that, she
preached wisdoms such as self love and acceptance. Karen made a deep impact on all those she
met and will not be forgotten.
Karen is survived by her wife Elizabeth Kerr and step daughter Elise Kerr, her mother Yumina
(Gomez) Battad and step father Marlon Battad, brother AJ Battad, and sister Connie (Talucad)
Wrighthouse. In addition, Karen is fondly remember and survived by her large and loving
extended family including, grandfather David Gomez, aunt Elizabeth (Gomez) Rodriguez with
husband Bernie Rodriguez, two children and three grandchildren, uncle Miguelito B Gomez with
wife Marisol Gomez and two children, aunt Paz Gomez with husband Jon Gaillard and two
children, uncle David Gomez with wife Jody (Wycoff) Gomez and two children, uncle Mark
Gomez, aunt April (Gomez) Labrador with husband Albert Labrador and three children, and aunt
Riza (Gomez) Eusebio with husband Oscar Eusebio and two children. Karen is pre-deceased by her grandmother Maria “Pening” Gomez, who fondly referred to Karen as her 9th child. Now they are in heaven together.
