June Eleanor Mertz

June Eleanor Mertz, a devoted matriarch, respected Medical Records Technician, and life-long learner, has peacefully passed away on July 2, 2023, at the age of 93. Born to humble beginnings on a cotton farm in Chandler, Arizona, on November 16, 1929, June was a testament to resilience, love, and grace throughout her life.

In 1945, during the throes of World War II, her family relocated to Long Beach, California, due to the war's strain on their farming operations. This move led to June becoming a cherished member of the Trinity Lutheran community, where she crossed paths with the love of her life, Rev. Louis F Mertz.

The couple exchanged vows on February 2, 1952, and embarked on a beautiful journey of marriage that spanned nearly three decades. Their love story gave rise to three wonderful children, Frederick, Richard, and Susan.

After dedicating 15 years to serving the Long Beach community at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, which they had assisted in founding and nurturing into a thriving congregation in the Lakewood area, June, Louis, and their children embarked on a fresh journey in San Diego in 1966.

In this new city, June enthusiastically pursued her deep-rooted passion for learning by enrolling at San Diego Mesa College to study Medical Records Technology. Equipped with her degree, she worked diligently as a Medical Records Technician at Mission Bay Hospital for 12 years, making a meaningful contribution to the field of healthcare. .

Her later years were joyfully spent with her eight beloved grandchildren - Emily, Erik, Nathan, Nicole, Jason, Natalie, Chase, and Keaton, and three great-grandchildren - Noah, Joshua, and Tony. June's love for her family was boundless and remained her source of pride and happiness.

After living in her cherished Clairemont home until 2021, June transitioned to assisted living, where she spent her final two years. Her enduring spirit, kindness, and wisdom touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory continues to be a beacon of love for her dear ones left behind.

June's departure from this world leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy, however, will continue to live on in their shared memories and stories. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service for June will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 9:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 4761 Cass St, San Diego, CA 92109. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 2:00pm at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd, Westminster, CA 92683.
