Joy Dean Cooper

She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, surrounded by her family and close friends. She was an avid reader, loved country music, concerts, and traveling. She was known for her quick wit, strong faith, southern cooking, her famous chocolate pie, and her warm and joyful personality. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Joy’s memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends and her spirit will continue to inspire us all. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa deBerardinis and Kim Stead; her brother, Cecil Wingo; her grandchildren, Amanda deBerardinis and Andrew deBerardinis; Taylor Stead and Dylan Stead; Gary Hunt and Madison Fanders; great grandchildren, Kemper, Lucian, Aidan, Braydyn; and 13 nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her daughter, Kristin Wright; her brother, Otha Wingo; and her parents, Elijah and Edna Wingo.

A memorial service to celebrate Joy’s life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2023 at Pacific Beach La Jolla Chapel at 11:00 AM.
