John Jongsool Lee

John is survived by his wife, Myung Sook, and his two children - Brian and Clara, all in San Diego. He is preceded in death by his parents - Kyu Chan and Jung Sook Lee in Korea.

John was born in Korea into a large family with 2 sisters and 2 brothers. He graduated from Kyung Pook National University with a medical degree and immigrated to the US. He married Myung Sook Choi; they were married 45 years.

He worked at High Desert Hospital from 1984 to 2010. After he retired, he continued to work throughout his life as a locum tenens doctor, often in underserved settings such as prisons or rural communities. He is remembered as a caring, practical, and direct physician.

His children remember him as a humorous & vibrant father who encouraged them to pursue studies in medicine.

John was sociable and throughout his life, spent time with friends from his college and medical school days, as well as his extended family in Korea. He loved to travel and go on trips with them and saw wide parts of the world including Turkey, Cambodia, and Peru.

He loved his family dearly and often commented about how fortunate he was to be in San Diego close to his children and grandchildren.

A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM with a reception to follow
