GUERRA John Lee “David”, age 55, of San Diego was born on February 13, 1964 and was called home to the Lord on February 18, 2019
John Lee “David” Guerra was born on Thursday, February 13th 1964 in San Diego, California at Mercy Hospital. He was the second child and first born son of five children to Rita Virginia and John Lee. His mother remembers him as a quiet, helpful and well behaved child who always had a smile on his face. However, he still kept her on her toes as he often wandered off to explore due to his independent nature.
As a junior and throughout High School, John David developed a true passion for what was referred to at the time as Video Production. He graduated Patrick Henry High School in 1983. He attended San Diego City College, earning an Associates of Art degree in Television Broadcasting. He worked at the local station, Channel 6 as their Floor Manager on a part-time basis as well as Mercy Hospital. He was eventually offered a full-time position at the T.V. station, but that would mean he would have to quit at the hospital. Because of his patient and compassionate nature he couldn’t give up the idea of helping people who were really in need. Therefore, he decided to pursue a full-time career in Health Care. He obtained his Certified Nursing Assistant Credentials and started out as an assistant in the E.R. at Mercy Hospital. He also worked as a home care private aide for his longtime client, Ben Whal. He eventually worked as a team assistant in the Behavioral Unit at the same facility, currently known as Scripps Mercy Hospital where he remained throughout his career.
Growing up John “David” enjoyed fishing, attending firearm safety programs, local hunting outings with his Dad, camping, and family vacations. As a kid at 9 0’clock at night he was the one to remind us all that “the grunion are running right now and we need to get the buckets to go out to the ocean and catch some.” This is a popular tradition for true San Diegans of all ages, especially in the summertime. He loved to walk in the rain, hang at the beach, listen to good contemporary jazz and jazz infused R & B music, and he had to have ketchup on everything, even tacos! He was a loyal die-hard Padre and Chargers fan, even when they moved to L.A.! He also went to Aztec Football games. He would be described as a loner by some as he seemed to spend a lot of quiet time watching T.V., driving up the coast alone as he admired the ocean until he hit San Francisco or just sitting in his car reading Facebook in the driveway! However, he had a great love for people and truly enjoyed spending time out for dinner and events with his parents or sister, catching a movie with his brothers, and participating in various activities with the members of the O.A. group, his co-workers at Mercy Hospital, as well as cherished friends whom he considered all to be his extended family. He was a big kid at heart and loved entertaining his niece (also his goddaughter) nephews, and godson by making funny sounds, telling silly jokes and sharing in their laughter.
He was preceded in death by his beloved (Father ) John Lee Guera and first ( brother) Mario Michael. He is survived by loving (Mother) Rita Virginia Guera (sister )“Anna”Maria Teresa, (brothers) Patrick Eugene Dominic, Christopher Paul (sister-in-law) Rachel Gloria (Patrick’s wife) (their children): Cole Jones and Russell Wolf. (brother Mario’s children): Mario Elias and Raquel Marisela, (goddaughter) their Mother Xochilt, earthly father Marcus and Marcus Jr. Schiavone, and his godson Jacob Richard Hernandez.
John or David, however you knew him, was a genuinely kind and loving person with a heart bigger than we could have all imagined. He was always ready to help you in any way that he could. He will be greatly missed and cherished by all of those who were blessed to have known him.
