John “Jack” Arthur passed away on Monday August 14, 2017 at the age of 90. He was born on March 9, 1927 in Pueblo, CO, son of Daria Arthur and John E. Edward Arthur Sr. Jack moved to San Diego in 1929.
He graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in 1945 and was drafted into the US Navy directly out of high school. Jack served in the Navy during WWII as a Quartermaster on the USS Hollandia.
Jack met his future wife, Donna, on a blind date and were married one year later. In 1969, they custom built their home atop Del Cerro, overlooking San Diego State University and beyond. After his military service, Jack started his career as a car salesman and worked over the course of six decades selling cars to the people of San Diego.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Kathleen (San Diego), Marleen (San Diego), Rosemary (deceased); sons, Mark (Kelso, WA); (6) grandchildren; Brandi, Karin, Shelly, Stacy, Peter, Nicholas; and 5 great-grandchildren; Devon, Gracie, Emily, Carter and Jacob; brothers Fields Benton (wife Ann, deceased), Robert (wife Karen).
A rosary service will be held on Thursday August 24, 2017 at 9:30 am, followed by mass at 10:00 am at St. Therese Catholic Church, 6016 Camino Rico, San Diego, CA 92120. Burial services will be held directly after church services at 11:15 am at Holy Cross Cemetery, San Diego. A reception will be held at the family’s home following the services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharp Hospice of San Diego or St. Therese Catholic Church.
