Joel Stevens

Joel was born November 28, 1967, on his mother’s and grandfather’s birthday, to Roger and Julia Spinks in Columbus, Ohio. At 3 years old, his parents moved to San Jose, CA. along with his older brother Kevin. Joel graduated from Leland High School and then attended San Diego State University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 1992.

Joel continued his education with a variety of advanced classes and became known as an expert in the testing of Pharmaceutical products. He worked a variety of jobs as a testing consultant, and in the use of computerized testing for the Biotechnology Industry. He traveled extensively across the United States sharing his expertise with numerous Biotech companies.

Joel was a lover of nature and especially the ocean. He was in his element when surfing or kayaking in the blue waters of the Pacific. He loved fishing off his surfboard or kayak, and wrote articles for outdoor magazines regarding ideas for catching fish and avoiding sharks. He also enjoyed growing plants, and was talented in drawing and painting.

Joel had a good sense of humor, a brilliant smile and a desire to help other people. Many of his friends admired Joel and said he was a “great guy”. He is survived by his parents Roger and Julia Spinks, his brother Kevin and his wife Karen Spinks, nephew Eric, niece Brittany, and numerous cousins and other family members.

Our hearts are broken by Joel’s absence, but he will live in our spirits until we meet him again in heaven. May God Bless Joel Allan Spinks.
