The world sadly lost Jocelyn Marie Silva on Saturday, August 13th, 2016, just three weeks before her 31st birthday. Jocelyn, affectionately known as Joc or Jocey, was born and raised in San Diego surrounded by a tight-knit family and many friends. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Arizona State University in 2009, and worked diligently and proudly in her field in such prestigious institutions as UCSD Medical Center and Scripps Prebys Cardiovascular Institute, among others. Jocelyn volunteered with Fresh Start Clinic at Rady Children’s Hospital, supporting reconstructive surgery to infants, children and teens with deformities caused by birth defects, accidents, abuse, and disease. Colleagues say Jocelyn motivated them to pursue their own careers, and her spirit transcended in her personal relationships as well. Her big smile and nervous giggle was infectious to those around her. She was free-spirited, had a passion for travel, especially to Paris, and most of all, treasured her family and friends.
Jocelyn is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Guilherme Silva Sousa, and is survived by grandparents Adelaide (Silva) Sousa, José Vitorino and Carlota (DaRosa) Silva; her loving parents Joseph and Dina (Sousa) Silva; adoring siblings Jennifer Silva-Reis, Joey Silva, and Justin Silva, her brother-in-law John Reis, and nieces Gwendolyn and Olivia Reis, not to mention countless extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Jocelyn’s memorial services will be held on Friday, August 26th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2802 Cadiz St., San Diego, CA 92110. The rosary will be said at 10:30am immediately followed by the Funeral Mass. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jocelyn’s memory to Fresh Start Surgical Gifts Program at 2011 Palomar Airport Rd., #206, Carlsbad, CA., 92011, or at www.freshstart.org. The family welcomes you to share memories of Jocelyn at dignitymemorial.com.
May Jocelyn rest in eternal peace and may her family find strength and consolation in knowing she is smiling upon them.
