To the Fleming  Family:
One day, while having my hair done(on 30th  St.), a dapper fella walked in and said he had an appt for a haircut and would wait He entertained us with stories, and told us of his son and wife, who were musicians. It turns out, I had been appreciating  them for years at St. Pat's !  Next time I  went to Mass, there was Jim, who introduced me to  his whole family !  I would see him around town, too, always friendly and  smiling. Glad to have known him, even a little bit !(by the way, the lady who cut his hair said he didn't   even HAVE an appointment!)May you all cherish   wonderful memories !

Dear Aunt Betty and beautiful family.   No one can think about Jim (Uncle Jim) without breaking into a smile recalling a particular joke or story he told . . .  or some comment he blurted out.  The very first time I met him was at Stuart Street; Guy and I were dating just a  couple of weeks.  "This is my Uncle Jim," Guy said, with an unmistakable fondness for his uncle . . .  and an unmistakable look of prayerful thought, too . . . as in, "Please, God, don't let him say anything except 'Nice to meet you.'"   Jim bowed a gentlemanly bow to me, and shaking Guy's hand asked, "So my good lad, when is the wedding day?"    Over many years, Uncle Jim starred as the family storyteller.  As an "in-law" niece, I found myself  ever falling into Jim's traps -- he was great with getting me (and everyone else listening) to expect one thing, but the "other thing" is what came out of Jim's tales.   I do no justice to his telling of "Uncle Morgan's gallstones."  But trust me on this, it starts out with compassionate Jim telling us "Poor Morgan was in such pain,  excruciating, horrible pain!"  And it ends with a surprise outburst of song:  "A tisk-et, a task-et, I passed the little bast-ed." OMG, the room was doubled over with laughter!   Jim!  You were a grand uncle to my sweet Guy.  Your weekend chats were good medicine for him.  I'm pretty sure you're up there in heaven, and Guy is walking you around the place, introducing you to the Blessed Mother and all the saints:  "This is my Uncle Jim!" . . .  "please, God, just 'nice to meet you.'"   I love you and I miss you always.  xoxo  Sarah
