San Diego – Jack G. White passed away Wednesday, November 4th after a brief illness. Jack was born in New York City to Albert and Maria White (nee Gantner) and moved to California in his early teens, attending San Diego High School and later on in life Mesa College. Jack married Virginia Verry (deceased) in 1949 and they spent their first married year together traveling with the carnival. Jack held many interested jobs, including serving as an editor for the San Diego Zoo newsletter. Jack worked for many years as a technical writer for Solar in San Diego.
Although he had many interests, Jack’s passion was theatre. He was an original founding member of the San Diego Associated Community Theatres, serving a term as President. He performed at the Old Globe Theatre, the Starlight Theatre, and acted and directed numerous plays throughout the county for over 50 years. As a member of AFTRA and SAG, he lived and worked in Los Angeles for several years.
In 1983 Jack met the second love of his life, Joanne Mayer, and they spent 32 years together.
Jack leaves behind a sister, Rosemarie Harris, his son, Jack B. White (Margaret), Barbara Johnson, Sherie O’Neill (Tom), grandchildren Kendra, Robin, Kaitlyn, Leslie, Angela, Veronica, and Forrest, and 2 great-grandchildren, Matthew and Evan. He also leaves behind Joanne, and her three children, Jeff, David and Carrie, and 2 grandchildren, Zachary and Tiffany.
