Helen Louise Winans

Helen Louise Winans, age 93, passed away April 15, 2019 at the Silverado Encinitas Memory Care Community. Helen resided at the community for over 5 years and was recognized for her kindness and loving attitude towards everyone.

Helen was born May 23 1925 in Marion Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Florence (Thew) Robson. She was the youngest of 3 daughters. Helen was raised in Marion and graduated from Harding High School in 1943.

Helen received a nursing degree from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing at Cleveland Ohio in 1946. Soon after she traveled with another nurse graduate who ‘wanted to go to California’. They arrived in Los Angeles and the next day both got nursing jobs. Helen lived in southern California for the remainder of her life.

On March 12, 1949 Helen married John Robert (Bob) Winans and they relocated to Bob’s home town of San Diego. Helen worked as a surgical nurse prior to becoming a full time homemaker and raising 3 sons. Helen was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed music, playing piano, chocolate, and watching movies.

Helen is survived by sons Don and Bill, grandchildren Teresa, Sherry and Bradley, 4 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob and eldest son John Preston Winans.

A private service will be held at El Camino Memorial to place Helen’s ashes beside her husbands.
