Harold was born on August 13th, 1931 in Laurel, MS to his parents the late Bura Vandolph “BV” Jackson and Susie Anna (Robertson) Jackson. He attended public schools in Laurel until joining the Navy in 1950 and serving as a MR3 Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was a machinist aboard the submarine tender, The USS Sperry, during the Korean War.
On February 23, 1952, Harold married Edie Belle Middleton and the couple was blessed with three children (Diana Susan, Matthew Ronald, and John “Eric”), six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
After serving in the Navy, Harold worked as a tool and die specialist for General Dynamics followed by General Atomic. In 1978, he opened his machine shop, Center Line Machine and Engineering, where he worked until becoming an independent consultant and eventually retiring in 2005. During retirement, Harold enjoyed photography, wood working, and watercolor painting. Harold was a long-time Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and volunteer for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
