survived by his parents and siblings Glenda and Gary Guevara. His Father served in the United States Navy which took the family to many places around the world. As a Navy dependent, Gerry lived at Imperial Beach, California, the Country of Morocco and Maryland. He didn't enjoy the snow in Maryland but, he loved when his father took him to the beach to go fishing and crabbing. In the 6th grade, the Guevara Family moved to San Diego, California where Gerry lived for many years and called home. He attended Walker Elementary, Wangenheim Junior High and graduated from Mira Mesa High School in 1985. As a child, Gerry spend most of his time indoors. He was a book work, an avid reader and very intelligent. In Junior High School, he developed a bond with his cousins and that's where he discovered the love of clothes, fashion and individual styling. He became more social in Junior high school, and
that's when he made long lasting friends that had remained with him till the very end.
Not only was Gerry intelligent, but he had strength of character and judgement. Many commented that Gerry was generous, kind, respectful and thoughtful. These traits are what drew a lot of people to Gerry.
In 1988,Gerry joined and served his country in the United States Air Force for four years in Satellite Communications. Gerry qualified to work on Air Force One, close to the President of the United States. After serving in the United States military, Gerry attended San Diego State and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Electrical Engineering. He Components Engineer/Power Amplifier Specialist for Qualcomm for almost 20 years. In 2016, Gerry worked as a RF Hardware Engineer for ViaSat Inc. until December 2022.
Gerry continued his joy for reading and continuously challenged his mind with mathematic books. He would often practice math problems on a white board at home. Gerry would collect books and figurines ranging from UFO's, Mafia ,brain books, Porsche, Godzilla and Ultraman. His sister would tease him and call him a "nerd". He enjoyed wearing suits, and if not dressed up he still looked good in whatever he wore. Gerry was often called and known as the " Filipino Johnny Depp." He had a sense of style that he would often help his sister, Glenda.
Gerry loved his cars. He had this in common with his little brother, Gary. They would often talk about cars and would collect different vehicles throughout the years. He joined the Porsche Club of America. He attended their fancy events and participated in numerous competitions. His Porsche won 2 times in shows.
He studied "Eskrima", the national martial art of the Philippines, under the tutelage of Guro Master Mario and earned his black belt. His specialty was in "knife fighting" won in competition in 2015. He was very patient and passionate about the sport and thoroughly enjoyed teaching his sister, Glenda, his nephew , Garrick, and his friends children.
He enjoyed going to the shooting range and dance "popping" routines. His favorite music was old school 50's especially Dean Martin, the Rat Pack Music. He enjoyed dirt bike riding with his sister, Glenda at Penasquitos Canyon trail and hiking. Gerry enjoyed the outdoors and loved to vacation in Hawaii.
He volunteered his time, was a philanthropist, and community leader. He served as a past Vice President for Filipino American Association of San Diego North County. He travelled to the Philippines to help build houses for Gawad Kalinga and was involved in the Jonathon Tarr Foundation where they helped families that needed assistance and gave scholarships to deserving students.
Gerry was a very thoughtful, kind, and respectful family man. He enjoyed spending quality time with his nephew Garrick and niece Amaya, who are his joy and treasure. He was very proud of the family that his bunso brother and sister-in-law Sam have made. He was a confidant to his sister Glenda in everyway possible way and spoke with her everyday. Gerry was always dependable for his family without complaint. Always putting family first.
Gerry was a devoted son , supportive brother , loving uncle, good friend and brave warrior.
