The Oddo family wishes to express its sincere condolences regarding the passing of Mr. George F. Drain, Jr.  When we arrived in San Diego in August 1966, the Drain family took us under their wing and helped us to become acclimated to our new environment.

As a fellow educator, Mr. Drain was very supportive and interested in my career. 

My entire family will miss his smile, as well as his kind and caring personality.

Janet, I did not know your father but I suspect we have common history. My father was a Hospital Corpsman stationed in Egypt at about the same time you were there. I know he worked at a medical research facility in Sudan, though I don't know where he worked around Cairo, whether that was also a research facility. My family lived in Heliopolis and my sister and I attended Cairo American College. You would have been in the class between us. Please accept my condolences. I was honored to  have met and know George over the past 25+ years.  He was always a delightful, funny and sharp man, who was a joy to be around.  My office was fortunate to work with him and Janet to help him publish his autobiography.  We all learned so much about his life, his time in the service, as an educator and mostly his love of family.  George truely was one-of-a-kind as part of "The Greatest Generation."  Rest in peace.

George was a shining light, and the life of the party at Mission Village Church. Everyone gravitated towards him and wanted to be his friend. Kids loved George, and they drew a special picture just for him. We will all miss George's stories of his fascinating life, and it was always a pleasure to be in his company. We were so very blessed to know George, as he was such a gift to this world! I enjoyed George sharing his many talents with us, to include his beautiful poetry and hymns, as well as his ability to repair clocks. George gave me an "angel" clock, and every time I look at it I am reminded of what an angel he is. We will all miss George very much, and we are so very sorry for your loss. May he rest peacefully in the sweet arms of Jesus.
