Fred Erwin Mayer, a devoted father, brother, uncle, grandfather, steadfast protector, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at the age of 68. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Fred was the son of Isabel Caudillo and Leroy Mayer. Throughout his life, he remained a proud San Diegan, committed to his community and family.
Fred's life was epitomized by his deep love for his daughter, Christina Santiago. He was her rock, her first hero, and her constant supporter. His devotion to Christina was unmatched, always there to uplift and guide her through life.
Professionally, Fred was a dedicated security guard, known for his integrity and commitment to safety. He worked for many years in San Diego, ensuring the well-being of the areas he patrolled. His colleagues respected him for his vigilant nature and his ability to keep peace with a calm and friendly demeanor.
In his personal time, Fred loved playing the guitar and was an avid fan of rock and roll music, often strumming tunes by the San Diego coastline. Additionally, he found solace in the tranquility of fishing, a hobby that allowed him to connect with nature and reflect. His music and love for the outdoors were reflections of his soul, bringing joy and peace to those around him.
Fred leaves behind his beloved daughter, Christina Santiago; his cherished grandsons, Gage and Tristan; his mother, Isabel Sanchez (Caudillo); his sisters, Laura, Susan, Sharon, and Dee Dee; his brothers, Joseph and Sonny; and a host of relatives and friends who all remember him for his generous spirit and open heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Mayer, his stepfather, Alfonso Sanchez and sister Lisa Sanchez.
Fred's legacy will continue through Christina and the many lives he touched with his protective nature, his love for music, and his passion for fishing.
