SOUZA SR., FRANK J. February 19, 1927 to May 10, 2012 Frank passed away peacefully in his home after a courageous battle of lung cancer surrounded by his loving wife, Florinda, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank was born in San Pedro, California to Manuel and Maria Souza, and at the age of three months old, his family moved to Point Loma where he resided for the duration of his life. At the young age of 15, Frank followed in his father's footsteps and pursued a career in tuna fishing. Soon there after, he met the love of his life, Florinda Neto. He was drafted into the United States Army and deployed for two years. When Frank returned from being stationed in Puerto Rico, he asked for Florinda's hand in marriage. They were married on November 16, 1947. By the age of 23, Frank worked his way up to "Captain" where he owned, operated and managed vessels for 67 years with the last being his pride and joy, the "M/V Captain M.J. Souza" proudly named after his father. When Frank retired, he enjoyed his hobby of racing homing pigeons which he also excelled in, winning several races! Frank's most enjoyable times were spent with his wife Florinda; their children, Janene, Tina (Danny), Frank (Diane), Shirley (Jim), Joaquin (Renee) and Lynn (Pete); 22 grandchildren, Lisa (Tony), Cheri, Nene (Tim), Danny, Jason (Stacy), Anthony, Frank III (Gina), Michele (Chris), Denise, Jennifer, Jimmy Jr. (Malea), Deann, Jenna, Joaquin Jr., Peter and Salvatore; nine great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Anthony III, Dylan, Isabella, Dominic, Jimmy III, Taylor, Mason and Chloe. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, 1140 Evergreen Street, Point Loma, CA 92106. Final resting place to follow at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121.
