Everett E Ratta 87, of Alburg, Vermont passed away peacefully at Silverado Memory Care in Encinitas, CA on Sunday, April 30, 2017. Born in a home birth in Alburg, VT to Eileen and Everett C Ratta, he lived the last 52 years of his life in San Diego, CA. Everett was exceptionally dedicated to his family since he was a young boy, when he had to assume responsibility for his family at the age of 10, after his father abandoned the family. Everett worked hard as a pressman for the Burlington Free Press and later for the San Diego Union Tribune where he was always volunteering to work extra shifts to better provide for his family. Everett was exceptionally proud of his family and above all else he valued and enjoyed every minute with his 6 children, his step daughter, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Everett was well known for his great sense of humor, his quick wit, poetic ditties, and his math tricks. He had one of the quickest, funniest wits around and everywhere he went he received great joy by making others laugh. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and Europe, being a HAM radio operator, and tinkering in his garage and around the house. Everett is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marcia Ratta, his 6 children, Ralph Ratta, Stephen Ratta, E Allen Ratta, Meg Ratta Morefield, Daniel Ratta, Andrew Ratta and his stepdaughter Julie Blanck. He is also survived by his loving sister Elaine Kirby and Evelyn Casey and many loving nieces, a nephew, and great nieces and nephews. Everett was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. Everett considered himself a blessed man and "one of the luckiest guys born on the wrong side of the tracks." Everett's memorial service will be held at El Camino Memorial Chapel in Sorrento Valley, San Diego, CA on Monday, May 8, 2017, with a viewing from 1:30-2:00 and a closed casket service at 2:00with a graveside service to follow.
