Ernest was born on May 1, 1929 in Phoenix, Arizona to Andres and Sarah Lancaster. Ernest attended Brawley Union High School and graduated in 1949. In 1950 he was drafted into the armed forces and was deployed to Korea. He was a light weapons infantryman. On October 7, 1951 Private First Class Ernest Lancaster was seriously wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired with full honors as a sergeant in 1954.
Ernest never spoke an angry word to anyone. He enjoyed being in nature, feeding small animals, going for long walks, writing, and watching classic movies. He was a beautiful spirit and will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Ernest is survived by his brothers Daniel, Ray, Andy, Ralph and sisters Ignacia and Alice. He is preceded in death by brothers Albert, Manuel and sisters Mary and Annie.
A funeral is scheduled for January 29th. A viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Merkley Mitchell Mortuary 3655 5th Avenue, San Diego, Ca. A service with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Miramar National Cemetery 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, Ca. Flowers and condolences may be sent to 31393 Bandan CT, Temecula, CA 92592.
