Edwin Karl Koengeter, aged 70 of San Diego California, passed away on April 7, 2024.
A native of Michigan, he was born January 7, 1954, in Ann Arbor to Karl Edwin and Edythe Margaret Koengeter. Edwin joined the United States Navy right out of high school, serving from 1974 to 1978, showing his dedication and love for his country. He made San Diego his home for the past 50 years. He and his wife Sandi of 29 years built a wonderful life surrounded by their family, good food, good wine, and good friends. Fondly known as Chef Ed, he found his passion in the culinary arts, working as a chef for 45 years before retiring in 2018. His commitment to excellence in the kitchen touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of delicious memories and inspired palates.
Edwin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, his siblings Charles, Linda, and Jan, and his children Aaron, Kamahanakapuokalani, Katie, Nathan, and William. He was a proud father-in-law to Jason, Chrystal, Sandra, and Elizabeth.
He was a cherished grandfather to Curran, Tyler, Noah, Samantha, Macy, Mackenzie, Allison, Savannah, Keoni, Amriel, Olivia, Nevaeh, Isaac, and Makaio. He was predeceased by his grandson Brett. He was also a great-grandfather to Mavis and Damian.
He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his steadfast dedication to his loved ones and his love for cooking continue to inspire us all.
For those who are able to join the family, a viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd from 10:30am to 12:30pm followed by a Celebration of Life service from 12:30pm to 1:30pm at El Camino Memorial – Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121.
He will be laid to rest with military honors at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr, San Diego, CA 92122 from at 2:15pm to 2:45pm.
The family is requesting Aloha/casual attire; please no suits.
Flowers or a charitable donation to the American Heart Association, Meals on Wheels, or your favorite charity are all welcome.
