Dorothy ''Dottie'' Pomfret was one of the original Mt. Almagosa neighborhood residents in the Clairemont Community within San Diego, CA. She passed away at the age of 86 on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
Dottie was born and raised in East Providence, Rhode Island and through her school years met and maintained many lifelong friendships. In high school she worked at a local hospital where she met the love of her life, Bill Pomfret. They graduated high school together, married in 1956 and were blessed with 3 children. By 1963 Dottie and Bill's first big family road trip destination was to San Diego, CA., where they relocated and bought their forever home.
Dottie encouraged her children to experience and love the outdoors (which may have just been a ploy to keep us out from under her feet all day!) We shared lots of fun family times together camping, fishing and enjoying the many memorable neighborhood block parties.
Dottie loved working in her garden and proudly showed off (and shared) the fruits of her labor. She had wonderful memories of square dancing and traveling with friends. However, her most cherished memories were those shared with Bill, their special 25th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii, a bucket list trip to Canada to see the Butchart Gardens and a cruise to Alaska for the 50th wedding anniversary.
Dottie loved her family and friends and over the years gifted many with her handmade cards, personalized for each person, works of art, every one of them. She was a loving and supportive wife, a no-nonsense mom, a true and loyal friend and of course a spoiling Grandma and Nana. We will miss you and will hold your love forever in our hearts.
Dottie was predeceased by her husband Bill, her son Richard, and her beloved pet Molly. She is survived by her son Bill (Linda), daughter Valda (Daren), grandchildren Jason, Dan (Jessie), Travis (Rachel), and great grandchildren Delilah, Logan, Olivia and Sean.
Dottie will be laid to rest with her husband Bill at Miramar National Cemetery, the service will be a private ceremony for family members. To honor Dottie in her passing, please consider donating to the American Heart Association.
