Dorothy is survived by her husband of 73 years, Andrew Corrao; son Sam Corrao and his wife Gayle; their children Andrew, Kathryn (Wolff), and Christine; and her great-grandchildren Samantha Ellen and Ella Rose Wolff, and Dorothy True Corrao.
Dorothy was born on November 20th, 1923 in Lemoore, California to Antonio Gillia and Rose Areia. She graduated from Hoover High School in 1942. She married Andrew Corrao, a tuna fisherman in 1944. During World War II, Dorothy began working for Convair as a riveter building airplanes for the war effort. She later moved into a secretarial position and continued working until her retirement in 1982. Dorothy’s greatest joy was her son, Sam. Her son remembers her as a kind and patient mother who made him the center of her world and encouraged him to pursue his goals.
Dorothy was best described as a classy lady, never appearing without her lipstick and coiffed hair. She was stylish to the end and always invited you to share in a box of her favorite See’s chocolates.
A funeral is scheduled for Friday, January 20th at 10am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with a reception to follow at the church hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dorothy Corrao's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the North Coast, Pacifica House at 4411 Park Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92008. The family would like to thank the staff of Scripps Encinitas Hospital for their care.
Arrangements under the direction of Merkley-Mitchell Mortuary, San Diego, CA.
