

Donald Gene Phillippi was born on 26 January 1970 to R. Gene and Wanda M. Phillippi in Bethel Park, PA. After graduating from Bethel Park Senior High School in 1989, he went on to study Workforce Education and Training Development where he received a Bachelor of Science at University of Carbondale in Southern Illinois. He later enrolled at National University receiving a Master’s of Science in Instructional Technology.
After graduation, he landed a contractual job as a Technical Instructor for the U.S. Navy for twenty-one years, including an overseas tour during Operation Desert Storm. He later pursued employment opportunities as a Networking and Computer Security Instructor for California Institute of Arts and Technology, Curriculum Developer for Scientific Research Inc., Information Technology Instructor of ESI Inc., and he was a Professor/Instructor for Prevailence Inc.
On August 25, 2001, he married Mary Ann Collarga, at Avalon on Catalina Island.
Donald served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years before being Honorably Discharged. During service he was awarded 3 Good Conduct Medals, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Battle “E” Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Southwest Asia Service Medal.
Donald was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Ralph and Mildred Pederson, his paternal grandparents; Jon E. and Sadie F. Phillippi, his parents R. Gene and Wanda M. Phillippi, and brother-in-law Eric Hollenden. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann, and son Joshua. Survivors include his sisters Beth A. Hollenden, Karin J. Hoover; wife of Paul Hoover, and Debra L. Hoover wife of David Hoover. Surviving nieces and nephews; Joseph, Sarah, Zachary and Robbie Hoover, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at El Camino Memorial Sorrento Valley on August 9, 2019 at 10:00am. Burial following at Miramar National Cemetery.
