Donald Benson Greenwood, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24th, 2022, at his home in San Diego, California. He was tenderly cared for and surrounded by those he loved.
Don was born on February 7th, 1937 in Queens, New York. He was the son of Louisa (Louise) Benson Greenwood and Quentin Edward Greenwood. Don was the second of four children, and brother to Jill, Evelyn, and David Greenwood.
Scouting was a big part of Don’s youth. He attended and worked at the Ken-Etiwa-Pec Scout Camp along the Delaware River. Don earned the Aquatic School Patch and was an Eagle Scout.
Don was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as a missionary in Europe, serving in Switzerland, France, and Belgium. He extended his mission for 6 months to help purchase property for the church, perhaps the beginning of his real estate career.
Don graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors of Arts, and from Northwestern University with a Master of Business Administration. He also served our country in the Army Reserves.
Don married Patricia Ruth Teichert in the Salt Lake Temple on September 1, 1961. Together they had three children: Travis Page Greenwood, Suzanne Greenwood Bringhurst, and Tamela Greenwood Blake.
Don’s career in sales began with the Pacific Telephone Company in San Diego, California. He later worked for Boise Cascade in Torrance, California, and then began his real estate career with Milton Meyer & Company, where his first assignment was to lease a high-rise office building - the Mutual Benefit Life building - on Wilshire Blvd. Don truly had an entrepreneurial spirit, and after a few years he started Greenwood & Co. For the rest of his career, he continued leasing and selling office buildings in Beverly Hills, West Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Wilshire Blvd District and Downtown Los Angeles.
Don married Ginny Ann Pauley in 1999. They were later sealed in the Mt Timpanogos temple. Don and Ginny retired to San Diego, California and Park City, Utah, where they have lived the past 18 years, including the last 12 years with their beloved dog Lexi.
Don was an accomplished artist and loved to create beauty through his art. His art has been displayed in galleries in Utah and California and is also on display at many homes and businesses of his family and friends. In his later years if you wanted to find Don you could usually find him in his art studio where he loved to create and express his love for life.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Quentin Edward Greenwood & Louisa (Louise) Benson Greenwood, and his sister, Jill Devou. He is survived by his wife, Ginny Pauley Greenwood, his siblings, Evelyn Strang Runyard and David Greenwood, his children, Travis Page Greenwood (Andrea), Suzanne Greenwood Bringhurst (Gary), and Tamela Greenwood Blake (Boyd), 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held in California with a graveside service in Utah. Much beloved by his family, Don will be dearly missed.
