Don Ell Steele

Don Ell Steele, age 84, of San Diego, CA, died Friday, February 10, 2023 at his home after a long illness. He was born to Marshall and Alma (Allen) Steele on March 30, 1938 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was married to Emily Fay Brown of Belen, NM, on October 18, 1964, in Belen, NM.

He is survived by his wife, Emily Fay, of San Diego; daughter, Kathryn Steele of CA; son, Mark (Kimberly) of Dallas, TX; sister, Karen (Larry) Kliewer of South Chesterfield, VA; grandchildren, Heather (Joshua) Duran and Max Steele; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated from high school in Sedgwick, KS, and attended Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. He was inducted into the Army in 1961 and discharged in 1964 at Fort Bliss, TX, where he met his future wife. He then went to work for Univac in St. Paul, MN, in 1964. He worked on contracts with the Navy for Remington Rand, Univac, Sperry, Unisys, and Lockheed Martin retiring in 1999.

He was a member of Summit Point Church in Mira Mesa, San Diego, serving as a deacon, teacher, and CA Baptist Disaster Relief worker, traveling to different areas of the United States working under the Red Cross.

He enjoyed being with his family, gardening, running, and bike riding.

Memorial Services are planned for Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Summit Point Church in Mira Mesa of San Diego, CA at 2:00 p.m.
