David Espino passed peacefully into glory on December 1, 2022. He was surrounded by family at his home at the age of 84. He was a widower for 30 years and is now joined with his wife, Rebecca Espino. He is survived by his 2 daughters and 1 son, Helen & Dirk Uphoff in Phoenix AZ; Carmen & Robert Burke in El Cajon, CA and Daniel & Rebecca Espino in Sammamish WA. He is survived in death by his brother, Daniel Espino in San Diego, CA and 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was born in Santa Ana, CA to Rev. Rafael & Lorinda Espino as their 5th of six children. The family settled in San Diego CA where he met and married Rebecca Bastida in 1960. He was drafted and proudly served four years in the US Air Force from 1960 – 1964 as an airline mechanic. After his overseas service in Japan ended, he was stationed at Connelly Air Force base, Waco TX. The couple welcomed their first child there, Helen, who was 6 months old when they returned to San Diego.
David eventually followed his father’s faith in Christ and set about teaching his children the same. David & Rebecca’s children were raised at Skyline Weslyan Church in Lemon Grove, CA and now carry their own faith to this day. David was always seen with a smile on his face and exhibited joy in his heart. All those blessed to know him, knew he was always available, whether fixing their automobiles or repairing what he could, his hands were always serving. He modeled unabashed faith to all around him and his children’s lives are forever changed as a result.
A private graveside service will be held on his birthday at El Camino Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Cabrillo Hospice for exemplary services in caring for our father.
