Danilo Lucena Cantero, age 69, of Chula Vista, California passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023. Danilo was born in Pangasinan, Philippines on September 1, 1954, to the late Pantaleon and Sulficia Cantero. He was one of four children- His oldest sister, Zenaida Davidson, younger brother, Jonathan Cantero, and youngest sister, Eliza Cantero.
Danilo enlisted in the US Navy in 1974, as an aircraft mechanic. During his time in the Navy, Danilo met his wife, Elvira Cariño Cantero. They wrote countless letters and grew fond of each other as pen pals for nearly 5 years before meeting in person in the Philippines. Danilo married Elvira on February 28, 1980, in San Diego, CA in a private home surrounded by family.
Danilo was a kind, gentle man loved by many. He was known for his strong work ethics, providing for his family. He was an avid bowler and joined a bowling league with his wife for many years.
Danilo is survived by his wife- Elvira Cariño Cantero, his three daughters- Barbara Jayne Cantero Farinas, Mary-Ann Cantero Peters, Stacy Summer Cantero Malimban, his three sons-in law- Alexander Ramos Farinas, Nicholas Alexander Peters, and Jerome Carlos Malimban, and his four grandchildren- Olivia Cantero Farinas, Davin Cantero Peters, Joshua Logan Farinas, and Xzavier Cantero Peters.
Visitation Saturday, November 18th and Sunday, November 19th from 10am-2pm at El Camino Memorial- Sorrento Valley & Memorial Park. Funeral Mass Monday, November 20th at 10:30am-12pm at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Scripps Ranch. Burial Service from 1:15pm-1:45pm at Miramar National Cemetery. Reception to follow at Kusina Restaurant on Miramar Rd.
