Cdr. Curtis Sterling Sword Jr.

05/09/1936 ~ 05/10/2015Solana Beach - Curtis Sterling Sword, Jr., beloved son of Frances Serafina and Curtis Sterling Sword, Sr., passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 surrounded by his loved ones. Curt is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Sword, daughter, Kimberli K. Sword-Mandel, sons, Kenneth Scott Sword and Curtis Sterling Sword, III and three grandchildren, Sarah, Anna and Curt Sword-Mandel. Curt was born in Norfolk, Virginia, where he excelled in sports and academics being named All League in Basketball, football and baseball. Curt graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Class of 1958. Curt also, attended the Monterey Naval Post Graduate School earning a Masters Degree in aeronautical engineering. Curt attained the rank of Naval Commander and during his 21 year Naval career became an aviator who flew in Viet Nam and taught engineering at the Naval Academy. After retiring from the Navy Curt was executive vice president of a commercial real estate company in San Diego where he resided since 1971. Services will be held at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Del Mar on Sunday May 17th at 1:00pm. Curt was deeply loved and respected by all and now is in the loving embrace of Our Lord Jesus.
