Christine H. Conley was a Christmas blessing, born December 25, 1919, in Parsons, Labette County, Kansas. She was the youngest of four children of Thomas Harrison and Katie Fuquay Harrison.
Christine H. Conley was educated in the Parsons, Labette County public school system and did attend some college during her younger years.
Christine H. Conley married the love of her life, the late Purdee E. Conley and together they raised five wonderful children, one son the late Cornia Lee; and four daughters, Shirley, Claudette, Barbara, and Patricia.
Christine H. Conley worked various jobs during her lifetime which lead her and her late husband to relocate to Washington D.C. She worked as a housekeeper most of her life, working mostly in hospitals. She retired, after twenty-seven years of service at Washington Medical Center. During the Golden years of her life, she resided in Chula Vista, California with her daughter Shirley Sykes and family.
Christine H. Conley accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church in Kansas. After moving to Washington DC, she became an active member of New Bethany Baptist Church, led by the late Reverend John J. Koger. During her years at New Bethany Baptist Church, she worked in various church ministries and was elected president of the Willing Workers Club where she served in that position for over twenty years. When she moved to California, she was still active in worshiping the Lord and joined New Hope Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, led by Reverend Milton Chambers.
In her later years, she was not able to attend church. It was a joy when the Pastor and other church members made missionary stops to visit her. Mrs. Conley would spiritually lead them in song. She had a lovely, lilting voice and loved to sing gospel songs when the feeling touched her.
Celebrating her life while mourning her death are her surviving four daughters and their families: Shirley Sykes (husband Clinton deceased) and three children Clinton, Cheryl, and Christopher; Claudette Williams, her husband Samuel, and four children: Dione, Stacey, Sean, and Samantha; Barbara Washington, her husband Vernon, and four children Vernon Jr., Sheila, Russ, and Sherry; Patricia Jackson (husband Harry and son, Christopher-both deceased) and three surviving children Darrin, Denyce, and Katherine. Mrs. Christine Conley’s deceased son leaves to mourn, his first wife Eloise (son Eugene deceased) and four surviving children: Michael, Connie, Cornia Lee and Donna. The late Cornia Lee also leaves his second wife Shirley and two children Cornell and Shevron.
There are a host of Great Grands and Great, Great Grandchildren who all loved her dearly. Mrs. Conley would always say "...And, I love ALL my kids". She truly did. Our loving Mama, Gramma, and Great-Gramma loved all the children with her whole heart and held nothing from them that they needed and mostly wanted. She will be so sorely missed by the
