Charles G. Knight, Jr. went home to be with our Lord, Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at his home in San Diego, California. He was 83 years old. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Charles was a 57-year resident of San Diego. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He was retired from General Dynamics after 31 years of service. Charles was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite in San Diego. Charles was a Past Master of his lodge in San Diego and an inspector for the Grand Lodge of California. He made many trips on behalf of the Scottish Rite driving a bus of injured and sick children from Mexico to hospitals in the Los Angeles area in order for them to receive medical treatment. Charles was a member of East Clairemont Southern Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles G., Sr. and Trula Belle Knight, and his wife of 55 years, Joyce Easterly Knight. Charles leaves behind three sons, Charles G. Knight, III, and wife, Cynthia, of Rossville, Georgia; Richard William Knight of San Diego; and Gary Knight and wife, Kerrie, of San Diego; four grandchildren, Matthew C. Knight, and wife, Melanie; Tyler A. Knight, Anthony R. Knight, and Amber N. Knight, all of San Diego; one brother, Glen Knight and wife, Carolyn of New Orleans, Louisiana and two sisters, Barbara Shoemaker and Jean Strange, both of Knoxville, Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews in New Orleans and Knoxville. Visitation in San Diego will be Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Clairemont Mortuary, 4266 Mount Abernathy Avenue, San Diego, CA from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Visitation in Knoxville will be at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from noon until 2 p.m. The celebration of life service will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Berry Funeral Home followed by committal and burial at Woodlawn Cemetery and Memorial Park in Knoxville.
