Carl L. Garner, Jr. June 22, 1936 to December 6, 2021. Carl L. Garner of Rancho Bernardo (San Diego), California passed away on December 6, 2021. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Carl L. Garner, Sr. and Mary Garner. As a young man Carl excelled in athletics, most notably in basketball where he earned Cleveland High School All-City Team honors his senior year. This led to playing Division I college basketball at Kent State University.
Carl married his high school sweetheart, Delores (Dollie) Nesi, in 1960 and it was in Cleveland that they started their family with the addition of their two children, Greg and Lisa. Early on Carl demonstrated strong business acumen and it was in 1968 that his employer, Travelers Insurance, offered the opportunity to transfer to San Diego, California. Carl and Dollie made the bold move west that year where they set up their “forever” home in the newly forming community of Rancho Bernardo.
Carl shifted his career in 1972 when he accepted the position of CEO and President of San Diego Wholesale Credit Association, a firm focused on accounts receivable management. He led the organization from 1972 through his retirement in 2001 enjoying great success, particularly in his practice of administering General Assignments for the Benefit of Creditors and directing business reorganizations. Under Carl’s guidance, the firm expanded geographically from Southern California into Colorado and New Mexico.
Dollie was the love of Carl’s life. They traveled the world together extensively but ranked annual trips to their timeshare in Maui and cruising the high seas as their favorites. He was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather and placed family above all else. Supporting his kids’ careers, family vacations, annual trips to Disneyland, water skiing with the family boat and being the family leader are but a few examples of what defined Carl best. Not to be forgotten was the love he had for his Yellow Labrador, Capri. The two were commonly seen driving together in Carl’s two-seat sports car with Capri prominently sitting high in the passenger seat looking out the window.
Carl is survived by his loving wife Delores (Dollie) Garner, his son Greg (Jan) Garner, his daughter Lisa (Pete) Mallory (nee Garner) and grandsons Ryan Mallory and Michael Mallory. Carl was preceded in death by his parents Carl L. Garner, Sr. and
Mary Garner as well as his brother Don Garner.
