Betty Jane East

Betty East passed away on Monday, June 23 at home peacefully surrounded by her children and caregiver. She was 90. Daughter of Charles Aubrey Parks and Jane Ingraham Lukey, Betty was born in Malden, Mass. Graduate of Lowell State Teacher’s College (now Lowell State University) earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a minor in Music. She taught kindergarten and 5th grade and later working as an Insurance Adjuster. On March 1st 1946; Betty married the love of her life; Captain Walter H. East USMC. After Walter East earned his Doctorate Degree from M.I.T. they moved to California in 1950. Betty had three children Charles, Leslie and Kathryn. She was very active in the 1950’s and 1960’s social scene of La Jolla and San Diego belonging to the auxiliaries of San Diego Symphony, Children’s Hospital and many others. Betty was also very active with her husband at the San Diego Yacht Club, La Jolla Country club and the La Jolla Lutheran Church. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader. She loved flowers, traveling and her pets. Betty was married to Walter East for 67 years before he passed away on September 11th, 2013.
