   Although we went to Uni together and I knew who he was, I never got to know Barry until our class started reuniting about 8-10 years ago.  I really appreciate everyone who took time to post their memories of Barry as I have come to appreciate him even more than I did before he died.  He was a person who looked for opportunities to bring people together.  
   I wish I could have been there to say goodbye, Barry, but I know that you now know the contents of our hearts and I hope you are filled with satisfaction and joy, if not pride, at knowing how much good you did and how much people really loved you.  You are missed and will be, until all of us who knew you, have come to join you.


Rest In Peace My Brother of the Back Row, We Sure Had Some Fun and Interesting Conversations. I Liked Listening to Your Stories of the 1950's and Shared the Love of the Oldies with You.  I Enjoyed Talking About Current Events and Kidding You About Them.  I Had Known Barry for around 8 Years,  a True Stand Up Guy and Someone I Considered a  Friend, I  Will Miss You.  After Barry's Surgery,  Barry Renamed the Back Row The Post Surgery Row as Most of Us Were Recovering From Various Health Issues. I Remembered  Going Up and Spending Time With Barry After His Lung Surgery, He Was Always Kidding the Nurses, We Laughed a Lot. I Talked With Him of His Father and the Services He Was bringing to Him, as I am Now Taking Care of My Own Family Members, When Barry Saw Me He Would Always Ask How My Mom and Brother Were Doing, He is Remembered to Me, as a Kind Soul.  God Bless Barry's Family and Friends. 

Barry has been a close friend of my family for over 20 years. I knew him since I was born.  Growing up a few houses down, it was always great to see Barry out on his porch and he would always talk and hang out with us kids on the street. We would see would could climb the pole on his porch and as us kids grew up, he would always test us to see how close we can get to touching it without climbing the pole. I’m going to moss Barry telling me stories about the community and stories of how he would always see me as a little kid. He told me to make sure to say bye to him before I left to college in a week and it’s so hard knowing I can’t do that. I’m going to miss him and glad he was there at my graduation party. Rip Barry everyone on Goodwin street and Linda Vista will miss you

I have known Barry since I was a little girl.  I always thought I was hot stuff when my older sister Randie got stuck with me and I got to hang with “the big kids.”   Barry was like the mayor of Goodwin , Drescher, and West Drescher streets.  He knew what was what.  Who was coming and who was going. He was  a truly nice guy and I will miss him a lot. RIP, Barry❤️

Barry and I first met in second grade at Kit Carson Elementary School,  but my first real memory of him was seeing Barry and Mrs. Quinn passing by my house on Goodwin St. I think I was in 3rd grade.  From that time in, he and I created memories of hiking through the canyons in Linda Vista and taking the bus to downtown. Then I transferred to Holy Family School, where Barry introduced me to friends I ‘m lucky enough to see to this day. Sometimes Barry and I would sneak into the Fox theater or hang out at the US Grant Hotel and pretend that we actually belonged there. Ultimately we graduated to sneaking into drive in movies in the trunk of a friend’s car.  We remained close through our school years and even double dated to our senior prom.  Like so many of us, our paths separated after high school and we lost touch with one another.  Luckily for me Barry reached out after David Timms initiated getting together at La Pinata.  I’m so glad he did.  He is a dear friend and I am sure Barry is with his parents and other Linda Vista alumni in heaven.  God bless you Barry.  You were a good man.

Since 1983 , we shared a culinary journey.Barry was  one of my best , always willing to stand up for support and quality in my culinary team.As a friend he was a man you could count on . There a  thousand nice words I could write here about my friend Barry,but this would be a large book. Maybe one day I will write one and Barry   will be on page ONE !  Executive Chef Josef .PS, I  will miss you sadly ,now I have nobody to call and pitch about the Charger . So long my friend ,your friend Josef.

I met Barry 2 years ago at the Linda Vista Recreation Center.  I had just been through my second plant closure and was feeling hurt and lost so decided to be of service. I would go to the Rec. M-F and help set up for DO.  Barry helped everyday too.

Barry shared about his father, his recovery from cancer, his brother and family up north, and his adventures with the YMCA.  He offered me a seat in the back row and I would listen to Doug, George, Rick and Barry tell stories about Linda Vista,  Skate World, Old LV mall, the Milatary etc.  One day I went to pickup my Granddaughter on Goodwin Street and noticed Barry sitting on his porch. 

I introduced Barry to my granddaughter and he gave her and I a piece of Dove Chocolate. Every day for a year and half my granddaughter and I would run to Barry’s house to say hi and receive Barry’s smile, laugh, and chocolate.  

Barry your  kindness will be forever in my heart. Thank you my neighbor, friend, and angel.  I miss your presence here on earth but I will keep the faith.

Barry and I met in grade school at Holy Family. He was always good-natured and a great friend. Over the years, he would bring old photos from our elementary and high school years to share unforgettable memories. He loved to reminisce about the good ole days. He would take great pride in  discussing our school's history. Our friendship continued through our Uni days ( parties we attended, girls we dated, sporting events with our classmates). After Uni closed down, I got a message on my phone from Barry which said, "Bring your chainsaw and meet me at midnight because we're going to take down our school sign!" Knowing Barry, I figured he was serious. Well, I didn't go because I didn't want to end up in jail. Thank God that I didn't go because he was pranking me! He was always the first one to attend our dinners at the LaPinata restaurant, so we could share more stories of days gone by. This is a wake-up call for us all  to cherish our long friendships over the past fifty + years. Barry will NEVER be forgotten!!!


Myself and Barry go back to growing up in Linda Vista. His schoolmates were my friends and we went to parties. Holy Family was his school as I was going to Public school. We reacquainted at Drunks Only  many years ago and traded stories growing up in the Hood. I supported his sobriety and we became good friends. I visited him in the VA  Hospital and offered to sneak in a Cheeseburger. Took him to his Colonostophy at Sharps and then we had Carl's Cheeseburgers & Fries nearby as he was famished from being a good patient. I checked on him often at his house on Goodwin St. and saw other Kearny High School friends from that area. Barry knew all his neighbors and had many friends and always supported his Sobriety friends. I will miss Barry as a good friend, Veteran and know that he will be with his Father in heaven. God Bless my friend Barry Quinn.

Barry and I met at Drunks Only several years ago when he was taking care of his father and we would talk about how much he enjoyed his father and the privilege of taking care of him. Then he shared with me about getting lung cancer and being a nurse we talked about what he was going to do and who his Doctor was at the V.A. and I visited him at the V.A. when he has surgery. He was a good man and a good member our our AA group Drunks Only. I will miss him dearly at our meeting and am sorry I didn't get to say goodbye, but he is with his father and I feel peace for this. RIP Barry see you in a short while, it was a pleasure and privilege knowing you as my AA brother. God Speed. 

I first met Barry as freshman at Uni High school. Right from that first meeting and throughout high school we remained close friends and shared many adventures and experiences. We then again reconnected after spending time in the military. He in the Navy and me in the Air Force. At that time he informed me of a temporary job opportunity that was available. I got that job and spent 4 years there and met the girl who later became my wife. We than reconnected in 2014. He gave me a UT article he saved back in 1968 where I had made Sargent that I didn't ever know existed. Rest in peace Barry you were a special friend with a big hear and loving nature. I will miss and never forget you.

Barry. And. Bobby. Spent hours at a. BBQ restaurant in Linda vista.  Great ribs. We went to all the. Homecoming football games.  Barry and I were single and enjoyed years of. Friendship.  And with. Roger Hintze too.
