DR. BARBARA W. OZEROFF, PSYCHOLOGIST LA JOLLA, California – Barbara W. Ozeroff, Ph.D., resident of La Jolla since 1967, died peacefully at home June 21 surrounded by her family and friends, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. She was 89 years old. Dr. Ozeroff was born Barbara Joanne Woodcock on March 30, 1927 in Denver, Colorado, the only child of Fadook Mohanna and William Woodcock. She was raised in Denver, Chicago, and Hot Springs, Arkansas. She graduated from Northwestern University in 1948 with a BA in Psychology, later earning an MA in the ‘50s and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology in the ‘70s. Barbara married William John (John) Ozeroff, a nuclear physicist, in 1956. Barbara, John, and his son Michael then settled in Orinda, California, where Barbara worked at Herrick Hospital in Berkeley and her husband worked at Vallecitos Atomic Laboratory near Pleasanton. The Ozeroffs temporarily moved to France from 1962 through 1964, where Mr. Ozeroff, on behalf of the US Government, helped that country to develop its nuclear power program. In 1967, the Ozeroffs moved from Orinda to La Jolla. Barbara was a resident of La Jolla for nearly half a century. She worked as a clinical psychologist at Mesa Vista Hospital in Kearney Mesa and in private practice. Following her retirement in the ‘80s, Dr. Ozeroff was a volunteer with the San Diego Police Department’s PERT—Psychological Emergency Response Team—program, which allowed Barbara to continue giving back to her community. Barbara’s lifelong hobbies included playing tennis, bridge, the piano and, most importantly, walking her beloved dogs, including Couchez, Hugo, Coco, Jazz, Gus and Toughie. Mrs. Ozeroff was preceded in death by her husband John, who died of leukemia in 1981. She is survived by her three sons, Michael of Sacramento, Harry of Washington, D.C., and Brett of San Diego, two grandchildren, Ian and Kathryn, and her dear cousin Anthony Saidy of Los Angeles, as well as many long-time and cherished friends. Memorial Service to be held Saturday June 16, at 4:00PM. For information call 619-252-1639.
