Armando Daniel Victor Rodriguez of San Diego embarked on his eternal journey Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the age of 84. Born July 21, 1930, the beloved father, grandfather, and great- grandfather is survived by his wife Mary Margaret Cruz, and his five children: Daniel, Victor, Cathy, Jennie, and John. His family legacy includes seven grandchildren—Richard, Ruben, Melissa, Angelica, Brian, John Jr. and Selena—as well as nine great-grandchildren—Gabriella, Javahn, Daniel, Jenea, Samantha, Adrian, Mia, Caspian, and Gabriel. Having served his country on the frontlines of the Korean War, Armando was an Army combat veteran, Military Police Officer, and a proud member of Don Diego VFW Post 7420. After his military service, he worked as a plasterer for over thirty years, and belonged to Local 346. He was also a member of the Chula Vista Elks Lodge, the “Vagabonds R.V. Club,” and several bowling leagues. He enjoyed golfing, cross country trips in his RV, and watching football games. And even more than football, he really loved tailgating! He was married to his high school sweetheart for sixty-five years. Everyone who knew Armando remembers his sharp mind and quick wit; he liked making people laugh as much as he liked laughing himself. Nothing made him happier than family get-togethers, where he often became the life of the party with his wonderful sense of humor. Those who love Armando will remember his laughter every time we hear a joke. Every time we watch a football game, or have a family meal, we will remember his happy face--and know that he is smiling down upon us.
