On November 13, 2024, Dr. Shun-chin "Tony" Chou, Ph.D., resident of San Diego, CA. passed away peacefully in his sleep at 92 years of age, leaving behind his beloved wife Mary Tsin-Lan Chou, son David and daughter-in-law Ruth, grandsons Alexander (Tiana, wife) and Dennis (Jenna, wife), as well as three great grandchildren, Maddox, London and Lucas. Tony is also survived by his sisters Yu-Lien Lee and Yu-Ying Chou Chu.
Born in Shanghai, China, Tony completed his bachelor's degree in civil engineering at National Taiwan University, a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from Stanford University.
Tony was an accomplished research scientist at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory for several decades and was the chief of the Impact Physics Branch, Weapons and Materials Research Directorate for over 10 years prior to his retirement. He authored many publications relating to composites and structures in the referred journals and earned numerous awards, including two Army Secretary Fellowships. Tony was also the army’s representative and project leader for numerous international partnerships.
Following his retirement, Tony and his wife moved to San Diego, CA, where they embraced the active outdoor lifestyle and enjoyed golfing, long walks, bridge and newfound friendships.
Tony will be greatly missed by all who loved him dearly.
