Anna "Ann" Mussomeli, 91, passed away, peacefully, at home, in the early hours of September 10, 2021. She was born in San Francisco on November 15, 1929, and moved to San Diego with her parents, Pete and Lena Piranio, at the beginning of 1930. She grew up in Little Italy, graduated from San Diego High School in 1947, and lived the rest of her long and happy life in San Diego. She loved the Lord and was deeply religious. She was a founding member of branch 246 of the Italian Catholic Federation (ICF), at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mission Hills. Anyone who ever tasted her delicious pineapple upside down cakes, craved them, and she helped raise hundreds of dollars for ICF charities, by auctioning them off to the highest bidders, at various ICF events. She was a born leader and extremely organized. Never one to hold her tongue, she was outspoken, which, she freely admitted, got her into a little bit of trouble sometimes. She was always caring and loved to flash her beautiful smile. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Ann was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Sal Mussomeli, and her brothers Sal and John Piranio. She is survived by her daughters, Angela Namaro (Marty) and Joann De Santi (Leo), her grandchildren, Gino and Ariana De Santi, her brothers Joe (Angela) and Frank Piranio, and many nieces and nephews.
The celebration of Ann’s life will begin Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4080 Hawk St., San Diego, CA, with the recitation of the rosary at 9:30am, followed by a memorial mass at 10:00am. She was interned at El Camino Memorial Cemetery in Sorrento Valley, on October 5, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please make donations, in Ann’s name, to: St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4080 Hawk St., San Diego, CA 92103.
