Remembering you especially today Ann although I think of you often.  You were a delight.  The fun we had at bunco and the church activities we shared.  I know you are lighting up heaven with your sweet smile and laughter.  Rest in peace my friend.  We will meet again.  I love you.

Ann, the absence of your light and grace darkens our days more tragically as time moves forward. I always will cherish your kindness. Whenever I see Girl Scout Thin Mints I’ll forever see you alongside my mom—mom introduced me to my first taste of the cookies & you delivered the final delicious boxes I purchased for Care Packages to my own sons.

I loved Ann, she was full of grace, compassion and laughter. 

Her laugh was one of those whole body laughs, that made you laugh too. She really listened when others spoke. She was present in a way few of us are.

Ann was passionate about design and her work community. Karen M reminded us how Ann would cry while talking up at the SDDMA podium. Ann would get so emotional talking about how others were helping out, while she was doing the work of ten!

While Ann and I did not get together often, we shared a strong bond, and had many lengthy conversations about clients, movies, life, and the meaning of it all. We supported each other through a period of loss and grief. Our situations were different, but we connected and talked about the great loss that we had each experienced. Ann was thoughtful in her advise and empathy. She felt like a sister to me and I will miss her wise counsel.

I loved to listen to Ann talk about William and Caroline. Clearly she had a strong partnership with William, and they were a team, as well as individuals. And there wasn’t a prouder mom than Ann. There were always details to share on a game, or project, that was going on, that Caroline was just starting, or finishing. She clearly loved you both so much.

I appreciated Ann's creative and artistic  design work,  coupled with her expertise to communicate well with diverse audiences  to present exemplar web design and graphics.   She was  so generous with her talent  and her time--- it was a privilege to work with her over many years.    

Her friendship, thoughtfulness and camaraderie was personal and meaningful.  My sincerest of condolences to William, Caroline and family.

I want to offer my deepest condolences and prayers of comfort and peace to Ann's family and friends. We all will miss our beautiful angel on earth.

I am grateful for the time Ann and I shared together after getting to know each other at the Women of Porter Hill group. She was such a loved person by her family, friends at church, business  and all the activities that she relished,  it was a challenge to set time to go out. That speaks volumes to her kind and gentle personality  and beautiful smile that we all loved. 

Ann and I were blessed to go sailing, learning about native bees at the Nat (I wanted to go just to get to enjoy her company), and enjoying lavender coffee at Brew Spot talking about family, genealogy, and life. As you know, she was a good listener and you knew she truly cared about you. As my reliable co-leader with Neighborhood Watch and Nextdoor, her advice was always carefully thought out, a person I could lean on to clear my head. 

Ann's enthusiasm for genealogy spilled over to me, so I joined Ancestory. com and had the DNA test.  I could not believe it when a 1st cousin emailed me. Neither of us knew about each other and we only live a few miles apart for 60 years! The first thought that popped into my mind was "I can't wait to tell Ann in person!" I didn't want to text or email her, I wanted to see and hear her reaction. That is the type of friend she was, the person you want to talk to!

My mom had a saying...the good go to heaven early. The truth is that a person like Ann could be with us for our whole life and their passing will always be too early. I know she is with our Father and Christ in heaven, but I will always miss her.  It is a hurt, but a good hurt, because Ann's life was a gift to all she touched. I know when I knock on the Pearly Gates, Ann will be there to greet me, just like she did at her home, "So glad to see you. Come on in. Do you want some tea?"

I met Ann when my husband Jason, our daughter Emma and I moved to la Mesa. We were remodeling our kitchen and I had this really beautiful old Wedgewood Stove that we needed to get rid of. Once Ann got wind that we were selling it she zoomed right over (with William in tow). Although we only saw each other in passing I remember her warm smile and funny sense of humor. We are so sad to hear about her passing.

Ann Scott was my friend, neighbor, and walking partner for several years. I had seen her and William at Christ Lutheran School where Caroline attended, but didn’t know she was a neighbor until we went to a neighborhood garage sale.  We discovered that we both wanted a walking partner so twice a week we would meet under the light pole on Randlett and Victory  We began our trek through the neighborhood  where she knew practically everyone, then on to the “highlands of La Mesa” or down town to window-shop and discuss the new businesses that were being built.  She was so friendly and wanted to personally greet all the people by name whom we met along the way.  She remembered their names and also the names of their dogs. Along the way we often prayed about concerns, shared stories of our families, talked about genealogies. She spoke of her love for Jesus, her church home, her good friends and how she was involved in a variety of ministries. We never ran out of things to talk about. I don’t think we got in our 10,000 steps each morning, but we did get in our 10,000 words!

I remember how kind and supportive Ann always was.  I never saw her act ugly towards anyone.  She and I were in several classes during high school, and she kept in touch after we graduated and went our separate ways.  One weekend, she was house sitting for an uncle (I think) and invited me to stay the night with her at his condo.  We were bored, so we walked (quite a ways - a mile or more) to Sea Port Village to walk around.  By the time we got there, most everything was closed, so we got an ice cream and walked back.  Quite the adventure for two young ladies!  Ann was a true friend and someone who you could always count on.  This world is a little darker with her loss.

I am stunned and saddened by Ann's passing. I am happy I was able to see her in 2010 in Old Town, eat Mexican food, and catch up after all the years since OLP and SDSU. We shared a love of art and we were both in Mrs. Shafranske's art classes at OLP and in an art history class at SDSU. We studied together for exams. I will never forget her driving her orange Karmann Ghia - she would often give me a ride after class into the "pit" at SDSU where I parked. I never saw Ann angry or unkind to anyone. She was calm and never harsh - always just easy to be around. I wish her family and friends in San Diego peace as time goes on. You will be missed, Ann. Thank you for being a role model for all of us.

When we were in San Diego, the week before Ann passed, I wanted to make sure she knew we were coming.  Our previous visit and conversation a couple of years earlier, was like no time had passed since OLP and 1984. I didn't want to miss a chance to catch up again.  So heartbroken that never happened. Ann's spirit has always been the soul of gentleness and warmth, kindness and creativity. Hers is a quality of presence that exudes very powerful positivity, with an incredibly soft touch.  Like low tide during a summer sunset, when the sea and the sun both kiss your skin so tenderly, and conspire to gild you in light. Her own light, like that of the gloaming, changes all it touches...a Midas of the heart...pure gold and sunshine wherever it lands. The strokes of her life's brush bringing beauty to our world with her limitless talents and love. I will remain forever grateful for and humbled by, her ability to pass through life leaving only goodness behind, endowing us with fingerprints of peaceful joy on all of our hearts. Thank you, Ann.

Ann Mary Llewellyn Hoff Scott, 51, of La Mesa suddenly passed away on June 14, 2018 at Grossmont Hospital, in La Mesa, California. She was born November 19th, 1966 to Lawrence E. and Ellyn N. Hoff in Ann Arbor, Michigan but moved to San Diego with her family when she was a year old.  

Ann graduated from The Academy of Our Lady of Peace in 1984 and attended college at San Diego State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Applied Arts and Sciences, Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design in 1988.

In 1990, Ann married her college sweetheart, William C. Scott, and they moved to Julian for a year before settling in La Mesa. In 1994, Ann launched her graphic design firm, Visual Antics. She served in multiple positions on the Board of San Diego Direct Marketing Association, most recently as President from 2006-2007.  She was also on the Board for San Diego Ad Club as VP of Marketing from 2003-2005.

In January 1999, Ann and William welcomed their daughter, Caroline, to the world. Ann loved connecting with her family and friends, genealogy, starting new crafts, being a Girl Scout leader, searching for local historical items to add to her love of the area, and raising and watching her daughter grow into a wonderful young woman.

She is survived by her husband, William C. Scott; daughter, Caroline E. Scott; parents, Lawrence E. and Ellyn N. Hoff; brother, Neil W. Hoff; sisters, Carrie E. (Hoff) Gonzales, Tricia E. (Hoff) Murphy and nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins who will forever miss her warm smile, sense of humor, generous acts of love and loyalty to family and friends.

Ann will be interred at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial service will be held July 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in El Cajon.

Those of us who worked with Ann as a graphic designer and through the San Diego Direct Marketing Association are so saddened to know we won't again see Ann's smiling face and hear her laugh at a lunch or dinner.   No one was sweeter.  We all still remember how speaking in public at SDDMA used to bring her to tears, it was just part of Ann's charm.   And how in her grief over losing her brother, she came to lunch with all of us -- and was selling us Girl Scout cookies out of the back of her car. Those of us who had the privilege of knowing her will never forget her.  How lucky we were to have Ann in our lives, but for much too short of a time.  We continue to pray for Ann and her family.  

My condolences to the family of Ann. I am her third cousin and we  first met (or even knew of each other) a few years ago through our mutual love of genealogy.  I am shocked and saddened by her sudden passing at such a young age. One thing I knew is that she loved her family, those alive now and those who predeceased her. Eternal rest grant unto Ann, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul rest in peace. Amen.
