She leaves her beloved husband, Bruce Guenin, devoted children, Lauren Laughlin, Kirk Laughlin (Susan) and adored grandchildren: Catherine, Elijah and Marshall Thibodeau and Clara and Evan Laughlin, all of Connecticut. Among survivors are brother, Robert Curran (Maureen) and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She also leaves dear stepson John and his wife Sara, of Portland, OR, and their children, Wren and River.
Mrs. Guenin retired from the New York Times Magazine Group after a long career in marine publishing. She was a frequently published, prize winning haiku poet. Her work “Love Story”, was one of nine poems selected in 2016 for publication by Genjuan, Japan's only international haibun contest. She was also a member of Haiku San Diego.
Besides her interest in poetry, she was an avid genealogist and a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Jamestowne Society, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
A celebration of Anita’s life will be held at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, 1475 Catalina Boulevard, San Diego, CA, on Saturday, August 25th at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the non-profit organization, First Book, be made in her memory via its website, www.firstbook.org , in recognition of Anita’s lifelong commitment to learning.
Interment of her ashes will be at River Bend Cemetery in Westerly, Rhode Island.
