Angel was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, Angel Sr. and Natalia, and sister, Dorthey Weddington. He is survived by his wife, Susan, children, Michelene Barton (James), Angelin Synder (Tim), Carl, Jessica (Tonya), Joseph (Adria), James (Brandy), and Lisa, as well as 27 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and sisters, Juanita Trejo and Mellie Oldenburg (David).
Angel spent his youth in Barstow, California, creating many wonderful memories while living and being raised, along with his sisters, by their Aunt Rufugia “Cuca” and Uncle Brigido Montana after the death of his mother. His lifelong love of music started there in junior high, when he began playing the saxophone in the school band. After graduating from Barstow High School in 1954, he joined the US Army where he was stationed in Germany and was a saxophone player in the Division 5 band. This gave him the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe, performing while boosting the morale of troops serving there.
After the completion of his military service, he continued playing in various bands including marching bands, local jazz bands and college bands as he furthered his education, and then meeting and marrying his wife, Susan. Angel graduated in 1973 from San Diego State University with a degree in Music.
His passion for music extended to his vocation as a Band Director/music teacher at Bonita Vista High School, Sweetwater High School, and Granger Junior High School. During these years, he took great pride in directing and sharing his love of music with many young people. The various bands he led received many awards throughout his tutelage. An indication of his dedication and the joy he received from his career is reflected in the fact that he taught, arranged, and directed until he retired at the age of 82.
Angel was a simple man, filled with kindness who leaves behind a legacy not only of his love of music, but most of all, family.
